Wedding and evening dress alterations
Wedding dresses are almost always bought a size up and fitted to you afterwards. We give them more time than a standard job, working through fittings so the dress is right on the day you actually wear it.
What we do
- Taking in or letting out the bodice and waist
- Shortening the length, including underskirts and layers
- Adjusting straps, neckline and back
- Adding a corset or bra cups
- Altering evening and ball gowns

When to book
Ideally 4–6 weeks before the wedding. Expect 2–3 fittings: the first shortly after you bring the dress, the last about a week before the date. Last-minute dresses depend on capacity — get in touch and we'll tell you straight away whether we can make it.
Bring to the fitting
- The shoes you'll walk in — the heel height sets the whole length
- The underwear you'll be wearing on the day
- Any underskirt, veil or accessories that affect the length
Frequently asked questions
How many fittings will I need?
Usually two or three. At the first we establish the work and pin the alterations, at the second we check the fit, and the last is a short check before handover. Simple length changes need only one.
How far in advance should I book?
Ideally 4–6 weeks before the wedding. In peak season (May–September) capacity fills faster, so the earlier you get in touch, the better.
Will you alter a dress hired from a salon?
Yes, if the salon allows it — hired dresses often may only be stitched without cutting into the pattern. Tell us the conditions you're under and we'll find a solution that meets them.
